Apple is on top of the business world. It has lots of money, tons of name recognition and a loyal fan base that keeps growing. Yet its enemies keep growing as well, and it's not just other technology companies that are envious of Apple's success. Mostly, people are growing increasingly uneasy with Apple's stranglehold on its system. Mobile phone operators hate the "walled garden" while publishers feel offended that Apple thinks it has a right to a 30 percent cut just for providing a delivery system. "The big question is whether this discontent … will filter down to the millions of people who have until now had a love affair with the unrivalled aesthetics and sheer functionality of Apple's products," writes Ian Burrell in the Independent.
